  Engineering Internship

  During my 12 month internship I undertook placements within Engineering, Operations, Performance and Commercial, and Regulations departments in order to gain a greater insight into the day to day operation of a power station. Working within the Engineering department, I was involved in problem solving day to day running issues and coordinated repairs with the Maintenance department. I was also responsible for planning work packages for Aberthaw's 2012 major outage, and budgeting for future outages. I also participated in several continuous improvement groups. During the major outage I was responsible for the overhaul of the feed and turbine pumps and the asbestos removal from turbine and feed system. I also managed the coating repairs of the cooling water system and mechanical defect rectification. These projects required me plan and oversee work and to use my own judgement when making important decisions and continually keep in mind economic viability and environmental impact.Training undertaken; City & Guilds process safety course, confined space training, acceptor training (allowing me to obtain work permits) and boiler chemistry control.
