  I had a diverse number of roles within the company, ranging from production and up keep to sales at the bakery & at farmer’s markets. Undertaking tasks such as deep cleaning the kitchens, preparing the dough and selling the product at market. Holding this job alongside completing my A-levels helped improve my time management. As there were many tasks to complete within a shift, the role has better enabled me to manage my time and prioritise the tasks that are most vital. The broad responsibilities of the role have taught me that work doesn’t often finish at the end of your shift, but rather when all the jobs are complete. That attitude towards hard work was rewarded at the company with a pay rise shortly after being hired.Interacting with customers has increased my confidence and ability to deal with problems quickly and efficiently, while improving my people skills.Working at the bakery has allowed me to work independently and as part of a small team, cultivating good team work practices and communication skills.   My role within the company involves visiting establishments and purchasing age restricted products in order to test how well the staff implement company procedure. I started work prior to my A-level exams and have continued to work there while at university. There are strict deadlines to keep and often many visits within a short time period, so time management is key while working visits around lectures, assignments and extra circular activities.As part of the role there is a focus on attention to detail and any reports that aren’t up to standard will not be paid, this detail orientated pay has made me develop these skills over this period. There is no direct supervision, so I work independently completing the tasks set for me. Working without supervision has increased my confidence in my own ability and proves that I can work independently and get the job done. Show less

  Production Operative

  Working as a Production Operative required great attention to detail, every order was custom designed and hand made. This required continuous focus and attention to detail otherwise yours and others time would be wasted. Working in this kind of environment highlighted the importance of not always working through a project as quickly as possible, as this can create more work later on if you have made a simple mistake because of rushed work. When I joined WILA there had been build up of projects and there was constant pressure to increase output, without sacrificing the companies high quality standards. Working as part of a small production team helped me build on my team work skills as one must integrate into the team quickly and work well with them in order to complete projects on time.   I worked at Microsoft for a year to complete my Year in Industry as part of my degree. I worked as part of the team that manages presales and retention for EMEA. My primary role was to provide both regular and ad hoc reporting on both sales figures and advocate quality.
