The following year I sat for the National Athletic Trainers examination to become nationally certified. Not all states in the United States have a state licensure program. In Texas one must be licensed to practice Sports Medicine as an Athletic Trainer. As a Certified Athletic Trainer, I am able to practice Sports Medicine anywhere in the USA, including abroad, as long as the state or country does not have a specific licensure program. Should I transition to a state with its own licensure program, I must pass that licensure examination in order to practice Sports Medicine as an Athletic Trainer in that state. Show less
