  This was a truly valuable experience, in which I had my first experience of a law firm. I was placed within a range of departments including housing, employment and contract and was able to undertake research tasks for solicitors as well as learn the daily role of a solicitor within a regional firm.

  My time at the firm involved sitting with various teams of solicitors, ranging from wills and probate to corporate and commercial. I was tasked with drafting employment tribunals and franchise agreements, as well as interacting with clients in meetings and proofing documents.

  The day began with a number of presentations, ranging from pro bono opportunities to commercial awareness. I was able to learn about life in an Anglo-American firm, the structure of its training programme, as well as the range of secondment opportunities available. I was able to exercise my networking skills at drinks with trainees after talks concluded.

  The week involved identifying clear discrepancies between the company’s own contracts and those of its suppliers, as well as working alongside the sales and admin team, getting to grips with sales techniques, editing spreadsheets and utilizing the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.Working under one of the directors, I was able to get a clear understanding of the legal issues facing a smaller scale business, particularly those related to GDPR compliance.   First Year Insight Programme

  Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the firm invited us to complete the Spring Insight Programme virtually before the full programme is rescheduled for later in the year. I was able to complete tasks including: commerical awareness, due dilligence on a target company, drafting of a contract, and email correspondence with the client. It was a particularly engaging insight into the particulars of an M&A transaction.
