  Upon completing my level 3 apprenticeship, I was offered the role of assistant manager where I am responsible for staffing. This involves staff rota’s, advertising, recruitment and carrying out DBS checks. I also have a heavy onsite presence with the children, as a point of call for behaviours, emergencies and problem solving. Some of the training that I have obtained is- epilepsy, paediatric first aid, moving and handling, STEPS, challenging behaviour and gastronomy feeding. My role as an apprentice taught me many skills such as communication, leadership and independence. Whilst studying for my level 2 and 3 qualifications I lead small staff teams, whilst supporting allocations of children with SEN and varying disabilities. Towards the end of my apprenticeship I began having an involvement in the advertising and recruitment of staff.

  Special Needs Carer

  I work as an adhoc carer for various children with autism on a 1:1 basis, aged between 9 - 16. During this role I assist the child and their family in the homes with activities and personal care. I also take the children out into the community on a 1:1 basis, whether that be for walks, swimming or to clubs.
