  This role involves research into new and novel technologies, assessment of orthopaedic applications and early development of innovative implant systems.Research: Reviewing published literature describing advances within the market and new and emerging technologies. Devising routes to market through the developing of testing matrices to validate new technologies for safe and effective use within the human body. Analysing anatomical data, implant failure modes and reviewing relevant literature in order to develop hypotheses.Design: Early development and design optimisation using novel modelling techniques, FEA and CT based research and development. Analysis of FEA results in order to identify trends and establish the next phase of the development Project management: Management of industrial and academic partners involved with numerous research projects. Contributing to, and recording minutes, comments and actions from meetings. Chasing up outstanding actions. Technical: Compiling results from studies performed both in-house and through research partners. Producing technical abstracts and papers for release to the orthopaedic community. Duties associated with this role are; Research: Keeping up-to-date with competitor products, current market trends and the scope for potential product improvements. Early stage development also requires CT based analysis of anatomical features relating to concept proposals and the generation of detailed reports outlining how this information can be applied to the design process.Design: Concept development from initial outline and 3D modelling to 2D CAD for manufacture. Technical: Preparation of documentation relating to process, inspection, risk and CE marking of new devices. Generation of design history documentation in compliance with Corin standard operating practices. Finite element analysis (Algor) of implantable devices as a part of the development process and in response to complaints about existing products. Project management: Prioritisation of my time and workload and that of the development engineer reporting to me. Generation and control of design history documentation. General technical assistance to other departments. Chasing through of current projects to achieve deadlines set by product management. Sourcing and management in house manufacture and subcontracted work.Other: I have also been the driving force in Corin's new level of operative technique graphics. Since my arrival in 2005, I have pushed for this development, demonstrating the potential for, then orchestrating the purchase of 3D Studio max. From this point I have been the soul designer working on operative technique graphics and animations, high quality renderings and more recently the creative lead, present for technical assistance and advice to marketing and subcontract graphic design consultancies.
