  The BRANETEC Project was a joint venture by the Brazilian & Dutch governments to provide new solutions for treatment of wastewater and sanitation issues in the city of São Luis do Maranhão, Brazil.Working on a project with such an immense scope of learning, I carried out numerous tasks, such as: m• I was involved in preparing the detail design of the decentralised wastewater treatment plant.• Gathered information on the sanitation scenario of São Luis in Brazil including the applicable legislation related to water bodies’ conservation and water discharge guidelines for presenting the data to the team.• Undertook research, evaluation and analysis to identify emerging issues and prepared recommendations to resolve policy or process issues along the project lifecycle.• Developed analytical and research skills while evaluating the feasibility and the scope of the social and environmental aspects of the project.• Presented quantitative and qualitative data to the rest of the team based on the information provided by the COEMA, the sewage agency of the state. The data was necessary for the design of the financial model and the technical aspects of the project.• Defined the new sanitation concepts that would be feasible and applicable considering the “Cradle to Cradle” principle to a decentralised treatment system in the building of Vale Empreendimentos.• Assessed the potential alternative for the recovery of each water stream (BW, GW) based on the climate, geography, and the social conditions of the city of São Luis.
