This program gave me invaluable knowledge and hands on experience making movies from script to distribution. Allowing you to try on different rolls, find out what you're good at and master that skill. It was a program for filmmakers taught by filmmakers. Definitely recommend for anyone considering a career in the film industry.

I am studying a human phenomenon which happens every moment in our lives yet goes unnoticed: communication, it is an expressive act as common as breathing. Knowing how we communicate, how it flows within social frameworks is key to understanding how we live as a society, both on an individual and collective level. Knowing how we communicate, how it flows within social frameworks is key to understanding how we live as a society, both on an individual and collective level. I am particularly interested in the media, and what roll it plays on the human condition. Are we passive listeners, or active participants? When we look at an advertisement, what makes it catch the eye or ear, and how does it fit within the environmental frames to-which it is presented. These are questions a communications student can ask but not easily answer. For we are complex beings fitting within an even more complex social structure. Therefore no simple explanation for the phenomena of communication. Show less

The final test is making your own short film working as a professional team using industry standard equipment. Those years were some of the best times of my life, working and studying among passionate like minded creative individuals. By the end you are prepared to meet the demands of the exciting labour intensive film industry with many students now working on Hollywood level productions. Show less

    • True to life media inc.

      Jul 2011 - Aug 2011
      Assistant editor & co-picture editor

This production was a key stepping stone in my career. I was flown out to be the assistant editor & co-editor for Adam J. Mckay's first feature: "The Long Road Home." My responsibilities were to digitize the raw footage, prep and start making the first cut of the film. We used two DSLRs for this shoot so naturally we used Premiere Pro for editing. For most of the crew this was our first real application of what we learned in film school, not to mention the first feature film we made.

    • Bling digital

      Oct 2011 - Dec 2011
      Lto technician

This position was what I left school for, the opportunity to work on three Hollywood television shows: Alcatraz (Warner Bros. Television), Falling Skies (DreamWorks Television), & Fairly Legal (Universal Cable Productions). My job was to ensure the safe and secure creations of digital negatives via Linear Tape Open or LTOs for these three shows. These tapes were the last line of defence should anything go wrong in post, so they are of upmost importance. I would receive the backup hard drives from the DiTs, made the backups (usually took 4.5 hours), prepared the corresponding labels & paperwork, then after quadruple checking the tapes for quality control I would lock them in a safe before shipping them to Los Angeles via FedEx. It was challenging, it was demanding. I learned a lot from this position as I move forward into the next chapter. Show less

      Apr 2012 - Jun 2012
      Assistant editor

In a way I was the entire editorial department for the indie Canadian rom-com feature called "The Cover-Up." I digitized the raw 2.5K Red footage (and double backed-up on numerous hard drives), trans-coded, prepped and synced audio with the footage onto Premiere Pro then began making cuts; all on a Macbook Air. It was a fun gig.
