    • Thurgood marshall high school

      2004 - 2007
      High school diploma

Activities and Societies: Show Choir, BOOM Book Club, Anime Club, National Art Honors Society, Gospel Choir I took advantage of the fact that I did not have any four-year commitments. Because I had taken advanced classes during middle school, as well as some night classes at the community college, I was able to graduate a year earlier than expected.

    • Houston community college

      2008 - 2010
      Associates liberal arts - english

I spent mostly summers here, catching up with all of the core classes that I was not able to take during the Fall and Spring.

    • University of houston

      2009 - 2011
      Bachelors english literature

Activities and Societies: n/a. I probably did more at UH as an alumnus working in the Housing department, than I did as a student. I did however finally decide my major and minor. I also got to see the renovations of the student center and Cougar Place, as well as the opening of Cougar Village II.

      N/a english - creative writing

Activities and Societies: Anime Club, RHA I had my first experience with Housing at SFA, both as a resident and as a staff member. I also started some of my more memorable stories, as this was also the first Creative Writing program I had ever been introduced to.

    • Stephen f. austin state university

      Sept 2008 - May 2009
      Desk assistant

I think the job description said that we were the liaisons between the residents and the Community (Residential) Advisors. In reality, it was a lot of phone answering, signing for packages, and making sure that people were able to get into their rooms. My first supervisor described the job as cake - which it was for the most part - but it was my first job, so I learned quite a bit.

    • University of houston

      May 2010 - Dec 2011
      Student assistant

I was the Student Worker to the Senior Buyer for University Stores, located in the Plant Ops building at the University of Houston. I started out scanning and filing, then moved on to paying invoices with Vouchers in PeopleSoft. I became familiar with many of the financial functions of Oracle's PeopleSoft and Facility Focus' FME. I was eventually making orders over the phone and learning about P-Cards. Although it could be tedious at times, I came to like working in Purchasing.

    • Target

      Mar 2012 - Nov 2012
      Cashier

I think the whole world could benefit from working in retail. It's a true lesson in customer service and humility. I cashed people out, I helped them with their purchases, and I learned the other side of purchase orders that you don't even see in Purchasing - the actual spending of the money. I actually ended up starting a blog about the experiences of people who worked in retail.

    • Corestaff services

      Jul 2012 - Oct 2012
      Temp customer service rep

Before I was hired full time at UH, I was temping with the Student Housing and Residence Life through a contract that the University had with CoreStaff. I basically started out as a Customer Service Rep in the main Housing office and got hired on as permanent staff after 3 months. Temping is definitely a good way to get into a new job, or just try a new career.

    • University of houston

      Oct 2012 - Aug 2014
      Customer service rep ii

I supervise about 25+ Desk Assistants as they try to be the middlemen between the residents and the Student Housing and Residence Life department. I execute a lot of tasks in regards to their safety and well-being, as well as just being able to keep track of people during the busier parts of the year. During the downtime, I'm mostly doing paperwork and getting ready for semester end/beginning.

    • Westside high school

      Aug 2014 - Feb 2015
      Teacher, english i

As an Educator, I worked with my curriculum team to create activities that would assess the students’ progress. I created lesson plans around the specific skills that students were expected to learn. I also collaborated with my colleagues to assess the academic well-being of students that we shared.

    • The rainbow hub

      Nov 2015 - Jan 2016
      Content contributor

Toward the end of 2015, I applied for a position as a TV Reviewer for The Rainbow Hub. It was my very first paid writing gig, and I covered FOX's hit show Empire and Amazon's Red Oaks. With this position, I learned a lot about Search Engine Optimization and copyright laws as far as how we used pictures on the internet. Unfortunately, the website stopped posting new material as of January 1st, but it was definitely an experience that has helped me grow as a blogger.

    • Seven stars resort & spa

      Nov 2016 - Jan 2023

Created an efficient process for testing guests, tourists and locals in order to achieve a timely flow of no more than 15 minutes at the Antigen Testing Centre. Liaise with residents, staff, and vendors to ensure that units are well-maintained, and residents are sufficiently housed. Responding to TripAdvisor and Expedia reviews, as well as analyzing guest surveys and preferences in order to maximize the resort’s potential for creating a luxurious experience. I've learned more in this role than I had in any before it. I solved guest problems, I settled guest finances, I sold guest rooms, and I was responsible for making sure the resort is still standing at midnight so that I could do it again the next morning. It has been my most challenging position to date, and the experience has been its own reward.
