  Lifeguard

  As a lifeguard it was my job to show up everyday before the pool opened and help get the pool ready by picking up trash and racking the beach. Once the day begins I am on stand all day in rotation watching over the patrons and ensuring their safety. Also twice a week go through lifeguard training with other guards to practice our skills, as well as CPR. Once the day ends we repeat what we did in the morning by picking up trash, lost and found items, as well as raking the beach to make sure we are all set for the next morning. Show less

  Responsible for managing a team of 25 lifeguards. I am also responsible for the safety and well-being of all pool patrons by enforcing pool rules, handling safety situations which arise with pool patrons, ensuring guards are fit for duty and properly trained to fulfill their responsibilities, and promoting safety with staff and patrons throughout daily operations.Weekly responsibilities include creating and managing shift schedule for guards, approving timecards, facilitating employee relation issues, and ensuring guards are meeting park district expectations, and abiding by personnel rules. I would help conduct weekly training sessions to ensure guards are prepared for any emergency, can meet or exceed all expectations of their role, and know exactly what to do in an emergency situation. Assist outside 3rd party safety auditors to conduct unannounced, random audits required by the state of Illinois – occur 3 -4 times per season. Continually worked collaboratively with park district management to ensure facility exceeds customer expectations. Coordinate lifeguards to perform daily facility maintenance activities and instill an attitude of pride in the staff to keep the facility clean and appealing to families and pool patrons at all times. Also would help manage day-to-day finances including admission and concession sales and deposits. Maintained my lifeguard and first aid certification. As well as back up guards when required due to unexpected absences, or busy periods. Throughout the summer I would encourage, organize and lead team building activities such as volleyball games, after work bonfires, team dinners, and impromptu gatherings. Show less
