    • City of Santa Monica

      Jan 2006 - Mar 2012
      Chief of Police

Tim Jackman was the Chief of Police in Santa Monica, CA from 2006 – 2012. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of one of the larger police agencies in Los Angeles County, he had responsibility for a more than $70 million budget; 450 employees, including 215 sworn officers; and the safety and security of more than 85,000 residents and upwards of 250,000 visitors per day. Chief Jackman also oversaw planning and execution of numerous special events including some that had significant regional and national exposure (Los Angeles Marathon, the nighttime art festival GLOW, visiting heads of state and other dignitaries, etc.). He also established relationships and eventual partnerships with other agencies including LAPD, LASD, FBI, ICE, LA JRIC, LA JTTF, and the DEA. His collaborative approach to regional law enforcement eventually saw his election as president of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs Association, the largest county association of municipal police chiefs in America. Most importantly, his crime reduction strategies and partnerships with regional law enforcement, community members and other city departments resulted in a significant crime decrease – including the near elimination of gang homicides, a major community concern.
