Apr 2002 - Jun 2006Coordinator of the Competitiveness Program (PAC)• Supervised the Program’s country executives (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela) and managed projects and activities at the Andean regional level. • Managed an annual budget of US$ 2 million to be allocated in projects and research consulting jobs. • The Competitiveness Program provided technical assistance to public and private agents, through research and development projects, in order to help the private sector increase its ability to compete in international markets. Working areas included: clusters development, entrepreneurship and innovation, business climate improvement, and institutional strengthening. Knowledge assets measurement and social capital building were new areas in which the Program did some innovative work. • To disseminate all the work undertaken by the Program, commissioned and oversaw production of small books and videos for all projects (more than 20) undertaken in the five countries, and organized the CAF Competitiveness Conference (2004) with 400 attendees from ten countries, an unprecedented event that showcased the results the Program attained in the 2002-2004 period and other contributions by CAF in areas such as infrastructure, environmental care, SME promotion, cooperation for development, and cultural development. Edited a book on the CAF Competitiveness Conference. • As member of the Trade Capacity Building Table of the US-Andean Free Trade Area being negotiated (2004-2005), facilitated CAF cooperation to develop projects to support negotiations by Peru and Colombia, and organized conferences to debate competitiveness issues at the Andean level. Helped coordinate the cotton-textile-apparel-fashion value chain. • Organized the 2008 International Science, Technology, Innovation and Competitiveness Forum to disseminate lessons on successful cases of innovation policies in Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The audiences included policy-makers at the Peruvian national government level, regional government level, and members of the Pacific Arch Competitiveness Committee. The Forum helped create momentum to recognize the importance of innovation policies and the need to build an innovation promotion system in Peru. • Organized the Competitiveness Conference with the participation of a World Economic Forum representative in Lima to foster debate on critical issues for the design and implementation of competitiveness policies (2008). • Was member of the jury of the National Quality Award 2007, 2008 and 2009, providing support in assessing and choosing the best companies and government organizations that had successfully implemented strategies to foster productivity and quality. • As member of the Multisectoral Export Development Plan Committee, represented the Council in the implementation of the Export Development Plan. USAID New Private Sector Competitiveness and Poverty Reduction and Alleviation Activity
Oct 2009 - Aug 2013Deputy Chief of Party• Provided senior management advisory support in the implementation of the Project’s strategies to leverage funds, and meet sales, employment, and investment targets. • Led the operations and finance teams in support of the Project’s ten economic centers located in the highland region of Peru. Managed nine staff members in the Lima office. • Managed proper and timely fulfilment of all commitments and requirements of the Project’s contract with USAID. • Advised and participated in the design and implementation of the communications strategy. Wrote the five-year Project Work Plan including the mainstreaming of new areas of concern such as environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, gender equality, adoption of labor standards and inclusion of the disabled. Wrote all quarterly and annual reports, and the final report for USAID. • Endowed with US$13.4 million from USAID for a five-year period, the PRA Project connected small producers in poor areas with the market, linking them with buying companies and providing them with technical assistance to improve production, increase their income and overcome poverty. The Project helped USAID leverage US$5.2 million in additional funds from private resource partners. From October 2009 to June 2013, the Project generated new sales for US$97.8 million, 21,605 new jobs, and US$5 million in new private investments, benefiting more than 12,400 small producers. The PRA Project has become one of the most highly recognized development programs in Peru. Its model has been applied in other sixteen countries. Show less

Feb 2014 - nowChief Tourism and Investment Specialist• Champions and leads new initiatives that significantly increase the number of U.S. travelers to Peru, including the job of positioning Peru as a premier destination for the U.S. MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) industry.• Participated in three pioneering MICE sales missions (2015-2016) and led five other MICE sales missions (2017-2019) in the U.S. • Promotes implementation of new routes between the Lima airport and US airports which do not have direct flights to Peru. • Served as the Peru Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism’s chief facilitator for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2015 for which Peru was the single featured country. The Festival gathered more than half a million visitors. As a result of the Festival, 10,400 new tourists were estimated to visit Peru and spent US$17 million in the Incan nation. Direct sales of handicrafts and processed foodstuff reached US$ 1.3 million. Handicrafts sales were 23% higher than the 2014 Festival’s sales when China and Kenya were featured together. • Coordinates with Peru Investment Promotion Agency the design and implementation of the strategy to attract U.S. companies to invest in both public sector and private sector projects and companies located in Peru. • Leads inititative to help Peruvian companies start to sell to the U.S. federal government and states’ governments, including the design of a workshop in Lima and the follow-up activities with engaged companies.
