'Stomatal Characteristics in Macadamia: Does rootstock choice or aspect affect leaf stomatal density?'Stomatal characteristics are well studied in a range of perennial and annual plants, however, no such research existed specific to macadamia. In this 10 week summer research program I conducted research into the effects of aspect and rootstock on leaf stomatal density of a commonly used macadamia variety under the supervision of Dr Mobashwer Alam and Professor Bruce Topp.I first completed a literature review on stomatal development, inheritance, disease susceptibility and climate change adaptation, after which I designed an experiment to collect data on stomatal density from an existing macadamia rootstock trial at the Maroochy Research Facility. I published the findings of my research, while completing the 2nd year of my bachelors, in the 2nd International Electronic Conference on Plant Sciences. (link below) Show less
