Together, we conducted thorough inspections of vessels crossing the border to ensure national security and safety.I underwent specialized training in Knife Offensive and Defensive Applications (KODA), and I served as an operator for the Datamaster/Intoxilyzer, emphasizing my commitment to maintaining public safety. During my tenure, I had the unique opportunity to serve as a solitary officer on a smaller island for an extended duration, honing my self-reliance and problem-solving skills.Additionally, I had the privilege of working closely with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office on a high-stakes homicide investigation, demonstrating my ability to collaborate seamlessly with other law enforcement agencies to solve complex cases.I was also selected for roles of significant responsibility, including serving as a driver for dignitary protection details and as an Officer in Charge (OIC). To prepare for this role, I attended the United States Customs and Border Protection Academy at the esteemed Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. My commitment to excellence led me to continue my training at FLETC in Charleston, North Carolina, where I completed an Advanced Spanish Training program. During my time at FLETC, I was elected as Class President, showcasing my leadership qualities, and received an Expert Marksman award during range qualifications, underscoring my proficiency in handling firearms.Upon my graduation, I returned to Nogales and made significant contributions to border security. I successfully seized several hundred pounds of illicit drugs, with my largest single seizure involving the discovery of ten pounds of cocaine hidden within a car's false floor.My dedication to the job led to my selection for the Passport Control Team, where I conducted interviews with suspects in Spanish for every arrest at the port. I played a crucial role in preparing these cases for prosecution or transfer to other federal agencies for further investigation. In situations where the Assistant United States Attorney chose not to prosecute, I coordinated with Mexican authorities to transfer suspects into their custody for prosecution.My expertise extended to firearms, as I received comprehensive training in sidearms, shotguns, and rifles, ensuring I was well-prepared for various operational scenarios. Furthermore, my commitment to law enforcement led to a unique experience, as I made an appearance in season one of National Geographic's Border Wars, featured in the episode titled 'Dead of Night."
