      Sept 2017 - now

Independent, free careers service initiated by myself and offered on Wednesday & Thursday mornings every month from September 2020 until present time. Information, advice & guidance are on offer to unemployed or part-time workers between 10.00 a.m and 12.00 p.m. Originally this service was twice a month at one venue in Syston from September 2017An afternoon careers event was also held at the nearby Occasions Cafe on Kings St, Syston between 3.30 and 5.30 pm operating on a similar basis. I have been successful in helping several people towards employment or training since starting and anticipate more success in the future. The careers service was necessarily suspended between March 1st and September 9th when it restarted at its new venues of the Occasions cafe in Syston, LE 7 on the second Thursday each month from September 9th and at the Beaumont Leys Neighbourhood Centre in LE 4 on the second Tuesday each month from September 14th in both cases between 10.00 a.m and 12.00 p.m. Some online work was undertaken with a few individuals during the Covid suspension and this will be maintained. From Wednesday, January 13th, 2022 careers work also started in a quiet room behind the Methodist Church Coffee Shop and takes place on the second Wednesday of each month. The careers work at Occasions sadly finished on October 13th as Occasions cafe closed for good on October 29th. The careers work recommences on Thursday, January 12th 2023 at the Delish cafe in Syston in an enterprise setting up as a community cafe.On November 17th in Cape Town South Africa, I was privileged to visit the Beautiful Gate Christian Community Project working in the Philippi township where I was able to offer some careers advice inputs to both staff and workplace trainees and then on the 18th to the Trinity Children's Centre where I was able to meet with the Community Support Worker in a supportive role. Careers work is in a much earlier stage of development out there. Show less
