      Nov 2022 - Mar 2023
      Youth Ambassador

Over the summer of 2022 I worked with a not-for-profit charity called Creative Trust that aims to close the digital divide within low decile schools in low socio-economic communities. I worked part time as a ‘rangatahi’ (youth) ambassador to deliver training in digital technologies, to re-engage young learners. I achieved this by working as a youth mentor at various events and school holiday programmes in Maori/Pasifika communities, training children to learn using innovative educational technologies. I contributed to the establishment of trust within local kids, by being a familiar face within the community. Our events (held in various Canterbury Libraries) exposed children to modern forms of education which are more enjoyable than older, outdated methods. The meaningful work I did opened kids’ eyes to future pathways, and made a significant positive impact in their lives. Show less

      Feb 2024 - now

I am an Internationalisation Assistant at the University of Canterbury. I work with a diverse team to run events and programmes aimed at enhancing the student experience for international students, and any students interested in the international opportunities offered at the university. My first venture in this role was running the Tūhono Cultural Intelligence programme at UC. Having completed this certificate myself in 2023, I was thoroughly excited to assist the next generation of students through the programme. Participants attended 6 meetings throughout semester 1, and learned about the value of culture and diversity in a professional environment. Following the completion of the course, students received their Cultural Intelligence (CQ) certificate. My second venture in this role was the Business School X UCom Amazing Race Event. I was on the organising panel alongside fellow Internationalisation assistants and UCom execs. The social event was organised with the objective of bridging the gap between international and domestic business students. Attendees were randomly divided into groups and had to work together, leveraging their cultural differences to their advantage. Show less I began tutoring a 100 level Economics course, "Introduction to Microeconomics" (ECON 104), in semester 2 of 2024, after personally excelling in the course last year.In this role I provide in person support to a class of first year Economics students. I am there to give academic assistance to students with their problem sets, which are weekly required homework exercises that put the week's content into exam type practice questions.Additionally, I am responsible for facilitating the ECON 104 midterm test and exam, which will be held later in the year. Show less I have been selected to be a Uni Buddy at the University of Canterbury. In this role, I am available on demand to communicate with any current or future UC students (domestic or international) over text message. I am available to give advice about student life, studies, living costs, scholarships, accomodation and much more. The position also involves content creation. The Uni Buddy student portal includes a content function for ambassadors such as myself to produce content (in the form of videos or articles) that is informative for current or incoming students.Another component of this role involves representing the University on student panels at various future student events. During these events I share my testimony and experience to potential students and answer any questions they may have about studying at the University of Canterbury. Show less
