      Student Athletic Therapist - Women's Field Hockey

      As a student therapist for the Women's Field Hockey Team at York University for 1 season, I was responsible to providing first responder coverage on the field during practices and games. I was also responsible for providing assistance to the Senior Athletic Therapists in assessments, treatments and necessary taping for athletes before play. We provided immediate urgent care to injuries on field and conducted side line assessments for both acute and chronic injuries.

      As a Senior Student Athletic Therapist on the Men's Soccer team at York University, my role involves providing care for acute and chronic injuries in the clinic setting and on the field. As a charge role, identifying and attending immediately to injuries and medical emergencies on the field of play is the main aspect. The role also includes effective communication with our staff therapists and coach in regard to the overall health of the athlete and return to play when dealing with an injury. Clinical hours involves initial assessments, manual treatment time, concussion return to play, etc. During this time we provide care to athletes that book with us and with the approval of staff therapists, apply manual therapy techniques, modalities, and sport specific exercise therapy for efficient recovery and return to play.
