  I originally set up Small Steps Therapy Ltd in order to provide mental health and well-being support into Primary schools in Cheshire, through the use of Play Therapy. As the service grew and recognition for the benefits increased the work expanded to support children in 7 schools in and around Chester.In 2010 I relocated to Sarawak, Malaysia and had the opportunity to support international, expat student's well-being and emotional needs through the role of school counsellor.   Whole School Counsellor

  Working at the British School Jakarta, voted the TES Best British International school 2015, continues to be a fantastic experience. I provide one to one and group counselling for students aged 4-18yrs and training, workshops and individual support for parents and staff alike. Over the last 4 years I have extended the remit and breadth of the counselling service beyond recognition and embedded the many benefits of a counselling service into the school. I am very proud to say that I was invited to be the Key Note Speaker for the South East Asia School counsellor's Conference in Nov 2017. My presentation and training was aimed at providing counsellors with practical skills in child abuse investigations and the knowledge and confidence to assess their role within a specific situation.I work with any issue that presents; friendships, cross-cultural challenges, family relationships, focus, stress, anxiety, transitions, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, self harm, sexting and LGBT and third culture kids to mention just a few. Additionally I have developed a keen interest in some very specific areas; child abuse investigations (from my work in Florida as a Child Abuse Investigator), self harm and eating disorders.The key to enhancing the counselling service within BSJ has been to build relationships within in the whole school community, so that speaking to a counsellor is not seen as a weakness or worrying in any way. I have developed positive relationships across the whole school through putting myself out into the school; helping on Primary camping trips, attending residential trips, providing after school clubs, supporting school trips, introducing and supporting Mindfulness programmes, developing and running PSHE lessons and supporting new staff on-boarding. I am not someone who sits in an office and you only see if you make an appointment with! Show less
