The changed geometry enabled improved rigidity, reduced change over time, improved repeatability and throughput for the CNC horizontal mill. Cost-out, perishable tool savings and quicker-to-market made possible by this simple, effective change. Our project was presented at the 2002 Annual Showcase in Fort Myers, to the Florida Sterling Council on April 17, 2002.

Solutions: 1) define and add tool reference datums -D- to die casting inside diameter,2) re-define tool pad contact surface for the tier 3 casting supplier to SIA,3) establish PMs and PdM for the fixtures; OD surfaces of machined jaws on CNC lathes; Operation 104) confirm MSA capability for: flatness, perpendicularity, parallel and cylindricity,5) re-define the compressor subassembly in-process test to capture leading indicator(s) to 2nd~4th order harmonics, 6) present the findings and revision with validation to; SIA assembly and OEM customer for approval Show less
