After 6 months with them, I was asked to head-up the creation of the local HR department in Copenhagen under the supervision of the Benelux HR manager. By building the foundation for a fully working HR department, I received hands-on experience with all levels and facets of HRM.

  Working for a top Danish headhunter firm, I assisted the Financial Services Partner in searching for and selecting candidates for high level jobs in the Danish financial sector. I had the full responsibility for client and candidate management, conducting screenings and setting up interviews. Though working with international partners in Luxembourg, Germany and Iceland in a very interesting period for Banking and Insurance, I never fully appreciated the specialist role and missed the broader HR palet. I do miss working for my self and I must admit to a certain motivation in being able to know exactly what 2 hours of uninteresting Admin is worth in € - but on the other hand, I do not miss the tax audits. So maybe again some day...

  Firstly, I assist our management with recruiting top researchers from around the world, ensuring that the expectations are communicated clearly across cultural and linguistic differences and the right choice is made. After selection, I assist candidates - approximately 100 per year - managing the complicated project of moving and integrating themselves and their families to DTU and Denmark. Secondly, I design and facilitate talks, seminars and workshops on the topics of Cultural Intelligence, Intercultural Leadership, and Danish/DTU organisational culture. Working in a truly global environment, it is essential that cultural training is not limited to those who find themselves in new surroundings - but that everyone in the organisation understands how cultural differences are the positive drivers of innovation and creativity.
