      Observed the production process involved in the manufacturing process of Infantry combat vehicle BMP 2 (Sarath) and its variants.Here at OFMK there are various shop floors involved in the production of parts ,sub assemblies of vehicle. In the foundry shop i have seen sand casting , die casting used to caste the engine. Investment casting is used to make intricate parts of engine and vehicle.In the Hull and Turret shop there are sheet bending machines , hydraulic and pneumatic presses with dies used to forge thick sheets to required shape. Different welding techniques such as TIG , MIG welding are used to fabricate the sheets and accessories. In this shop there are CNC lathe and milling machines with multi axes control to do machining of parts of vehicle. Laser , Plasma arc and Oxyacetylene gas cutting machines are present to do cutting of sheets of different thicknesses.In the sheet metal shop fuel tank is made. Pipe bending is done to make water, compressed air, lubrication oil and fuel lines of vehicle.In the Light Machine shop various sub assemblies of the vehicle are manufactured. Finally the basic hull, turret and sub assemblies are sent to vehicle assembly shop to do assembly of parts sequentially.After the assembly is completed various checks and tests are done on the vehicle for final acceptance and delivery to the Indian Army .
