      Netball Sport for Development Officer

      • Build TNA’s capacity to deliver ‘Sport for Development’ netball activities, including the ASOP ‘Sport for Health’ project: Kau Mai Tonga. This was done through the capacity building of the two new staff members and the coordination with local and international stakeholders; Tonga Ministry of Health: Health Promotion Unit, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Australian Sports Commission and Netball Australia. • Contribute to TNA’s capacity to access, manage and acquit funding opportunities. We secured access and training to MYOB, so that internal financial management could be made, and transparent acquitting was streamline for the international funding the association was receiving. • Assist TNA to raise the value and quality of netball in the Tongan community. Together with the National Operations Manager, I assisted in the development of a logo, branding and marketing strategy to improve the visibility of the association. We began to create networks with other National Federations across Tonga, through our inaugural membership with the Tongan Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC). • Strengthen and build TNA’s ability to reach its sport-specific and ‘Sport for Development’ objectives. This was done through strategically connecting the elite sporting ambitions of the association with the health and social goals. By promoting capacity building at the local level, health education and the provision of regular opportunities to train and compete, at various skill levels. Show less

•I Worked closely with technical partner and funding agent, Netball Australia, to implement strategic plan, receive and acquit Australian DFAT funding through the Pacific Netball Partnership (PNP). TNA was involved in WISE fundraising and networking night markets, the breast cancer walk and luncheon. Additionally, I was working towards the opportunity for our netballers to receive access to regular breast checks, through their netball clubs. • I assisted the National Operations Manager in the development of the 2013 strategic plan and annual sponsorship framework. We were successful in getting Westpac bank of Tonga and E.M Jones sponsoring the corporate netball completion whereby they sponsored teams to play weekly in their community. We also engaged with the local youth creative arts initiative “On the Spot” to design and produce banners for our corporate community series, ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’. • I assisted in the delivery of phases one and two of the national ‘Sport for Health’ project: Kau Mai Tonga Ke Tau Netipolo (2012 and 2013)*. The program used netball to target women, encouraging them to take up netball as a health preventative measure and personal empowerment. In 2012, we succeeded in delivering a netball tournament to over 1000 women on the island of Tongatapu. *Kau Mai Tonga, Ke Tau Netipolo (Come on Tonga, let’s play netball) received the Best Practice award from the World Health Organization, which was presented to the three partners (Australian Sports Outreach Program: Tonga Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tonga Ministry of Health: Health Promotion Unit and Tonga Netball Association in Apia, Samoa on July 2nd Show less
