    • Shelter Music Boston

      Dec 2009 - now
Founder, Executive and Artistic Director Emeritus

I built this social sector organization, which resides at the intersection of innovation, artistic excellence, and social service program delivery, from a startup with a 0 budget delivering two concerts a month to a thriving and award winning social service organization which employs musical artists to deliver over 80 concerts annually with a budget of $300+K.I built fundraising capacity, grew management and artistic staff, oversaw board development and recruitment, managed finances, increased visibility for the organization, and initiated partnerships and collaborations.I implemented program evaluation to document statistically significant mood improvement during all concerts at all venues. I created artistic projects with audience generated program evaluation material, resulting in concert performances and collaboration with the individuals experiencing homelessness served by Shelter Music Boston. A selection of the artistic projects I created and implemented:"Water For My Soul," one of these projects, inspired an audience member to write, "You have captured the emotional life of homelessness." A performance of this innovative musical work can be seen in the five videos linked below. I commissioned the first-ever operatic work about African American composer Florence Price, the chamber opera "Florence Comes Home." A performance of this work is also available below. "Voices From the Land-An Indigenous Composer Project" presented music written by living indigenous composers of Diné (Navajo), Hopi, Laguna, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, San Carlos Apache, and Tewa ancestry. The 12 videos comprising this project are linked below. Show less
