  Internship helped me train as a generalist in a tertiary hospital's laboratory. I had experience as an emergency room phlebotomist as well as a laboratory receptionist. I was also able to have basic skills on running different automated machines (Pathfast, Sysmex, Siemens). The laboratory caters 150 to 250 patient samples a day in the Chemistry and Hematology section, 90-150 daily samples for urine analysis and fecal analysis. I was able to help in preparing and grading fecal samples, in testing urine samples using test strips and also the manual method. Moreover, I was also able to prepare smears for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and prepare agar media for testing in the Microbiology section. I also witnessed how automated machines like Vitek and BactAlert, works. Show less

Skills include, but is not limited to, phlebotomy (both emergency room and outpatients, young and old patient population), blood transfusion blood draw (also during blood drives), preparing blood components in the bloodbank, running electrolytes and serum analytes in clinical chemistry and also special tests like Troponins, HBA1c, processing urine and stool, preparing culture media and planting organisms for identification and measurement of antibiotic sensitivities, etc. Show less
