      I was sponsored by Vodacom for the duration of my undergraduate studies.I did all my in-service training at Vodacom Engineering departments during vacations.The beginning of the degree was standard for all Electrical Engineering students and it covered Engineering Mathematics, Physics, Power Systems and electronics.In the last two years of my studies I chose curriculum that specialized in Telecommunication.This is where I developed a love for this industry and what… Show more I was sponsored by Vodacom for the duration of my undergraduate studies.I did all my in-service training at Vodacom Engineering departments during vacations.The beginning of the degree was standard for all Electrical Engineering students and it covered Engineering Mathematics, Physics, Power Systems and electronics.In the last two years of my studies I chose curriculum that specialized in Telecommunication.This is where I developed a love for this industry and what it can do.I studied Digital Networks, the nature of signal propagation and transmission through a telecoms network.I studied radio frequency theory, signals and systems and learned about the design and implementation of signal transmission equipment.Most of this work was highly mathematical and made extensive use of probability theory.My final year thesis was the investigation into how to improve the Bit Error Rate (BER) of a signal modulated using CDMA through a Rayleigh and Rician channel fading conditions.       In this role I am responsible for the planning of the Vodacom Core Data Network – this includes the routing and switching environment, DNS resolution, traffic optimization and network security. This entails capacity planning to ensure traffic from stakeholders, customers and special service offerings can traverse the Vodacom core network with the highest level of quality. I conduct research into future technologies and build it into the division’s strategy in order to better inform the future needs of the network. I manage CAPEX budget, OPEX budget and oversee the rollout of major projects and support stakeholders whose projects depend on the Core Data Network. Show less Comprehensive core network element performance management using stats captured in Oracle database and variuos performance management tools.These Performance Management Tools are:- Touchpoint (Tektronix Product)Probe data collected from the Gb, IuPS and Gn interface is used for Core Data Network monitoring, analyzing, reporting and alarming- Iris (Tektronix Product)Probe data collected from the Gb and IuPS interface is used for Core Data Network monitoring, analyzing, reporting and alarming.This is a product that I am rolling out in the company. I am working to find new Use Cases with the packet data pulled from the probes to further evolve how performance management of the data network is done as data use by subscribers grows.- Vantage (The Now Factory)Probe data collected from the Gn interface is used for Core Data Network monitoring, analyzing, reporting and alarming.- CognosThis is an IBM reporting tool that is used for automation of reporting functions.I work with the operations teams to analyze impact of failures or network upgrades.I work with Cisco to validate the counters they have configured on network elements in order to further improve the intelligence of the performance management function.
