  Assistant Coach

  The National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) is the world's largest honor society devoted to speech and debate. It is one of the largest interscholastic organizations that focuses on cultivating and enriching the minds of our youth. The focus of this academic organization is to foster a love for academic pursuits, research, critical thinking, and public speaking through competitive and challenging activities. Professional educators and adults help engage students in the four core zones of literacy: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Through local high school and middle school leagues, coaches encourage students to utilize these skills inside and outside of the classroom and to compete statewide and nationwide against their peers. As an assistant coach to a team of high school students in my hometown league of the NSDA, I spend the majority of my time teaching and inspiring these students to express themselves through public speaking. I provide students with one on one instruction, activities, and practices ranging from dramatic poetry presentations to two on two public forum debates. When working with students in debate I coach students on important critical thinking skills like structured argumentation and cross-refutation on specific topics that we research in-depth together. When working with students in the oral presentation, I teach the students vital public speaking and oral presentation skills. My weekly duties and responsibilities include: o Collaborating with professional secondary education teachers to coach over 40 high school students through lectures, interactive practices, presentations, and group activities o Utilizing my excellent public speaking skills and experience to professionally teach students how to perform oral presentations and engage in structured debates o Annually preparing dozens of students with the skills necessary to compete in the largest academic competition in the world Show less

  Archangel Raphael's Mission (ARM) is a non-profit in New Brunswick, NJ that aims to provide vital health and hygiene services to those in need, especially the homeless population. ARM partners with other local organizations, religious groups, and donors throughout Middlesex County to ensure that every human has the right to health and basic hygiene needs. In my role with ARM, I was responsible for outreach, networking, and fundraising duties.
