Activities and Societies: Along with my dance courses, I took sociology classes for fun. I was a Peer Academic Advisor helping new students orient themselves, and continuing students find the resources they needed to complete their degrees. I conducted research in the summer, traveling to Spain to collaborate at a festival with my cohorts and professors. I served on the editorial board for Dance Major Journal. I learned a lot about myself at this school. Most of my education, I feel, was discovering myself.

Activities and Societies: I was very involved with the dance program, participating in the ACDFA many times. On one occasion we performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., this was a very proud moment for me. We put on many dance concerts, formal and informal, as well as participating in theatre productions. I was a Counselor's aid where I assisted counselor's in assisting students to orient themselves, as well as providing information on school resources to students, staff, and the general public. I was afraid when I first started. I felt that if I said anything, they would know I didn't belong. Maybe if I asked the wrong question, people would know how stupid I was. Neither of those things happened. In fact, quite the opposite happened and when someone would listen with understanding in their expression when a student was not repulsed by the physical contact in our dance or when my mom would take my books from upon chest when I'd fall asleep reading when I received my acceptance… Show more I was afraid when I first started. Warehouse work was a means to support my family. I loaded and unloaded tractor-trailers, bulk trucks, flatbeds, and freight cars. This was accomplished by manually unloading 25 kg. bags, or operating various equipment such as forklifts, clamp trucks, vacuum hoppers and silos, hand trucks, or pallet jacks. I assisted in warehouse configuration by calculating, and establishing space for large shipments, new customers, or general reorganization for inventory control. I also set up permanent warehouse locations along the aisles by running cables for the length of 5 rooms (between 100-200 yards). I anchored them 25 ft. from the ground utilizing hammer drills, laser levels, and other hand tools. I followed OSHA guidelines for working at elevated heights and wore a full-body harness, and shock-absorbing lanyards to anchors and self-retracting lifelines (SRLs) while operating a scissor-lift. The majority of our customer's inventories were stored, and transported, in Gaylord boxes and FIBC bags weighing as much as 3000 lbs. To optimize space we stored them, when possible, four high. I was later promoted to a coordinator role. I worked closely with the warehouse manager and temporarily took on the responsibilities of supervisor until our facility hired an experienced team member. I made sure our employees operated under safe conditions and cycled them through their breaks. I verified picking orders and assigned them by priority to our associates.I was then moved into a CSR position where I coordinated with clients on logistics. I processed purchase orders, kept up our database, and participated in meetings and training. Show less

In October of 2018, the fan of my car turned on when I was attempting to repair it and it almost took off my fingers. I went on disability and had complications during my healing process. I found myself out of work. During this period I was paid for fixing computers, minor car repairs, installing vehicle and home multi-media, landscaping, laborer, teaching choreography, building websites using GoDaddy, tutoring, recycling materials.
