While at Elder, I was able to write the curriculum and start a Gifted Math Program. My students surpassed the district average on district common assessments each year, and they had a 98% success rate on all state tests. I also taught 6th-grade PreAP Math and On-Level Math. I was selected as a team leader, department head, and mentor teacher for 7 of the 8 years that I taught there. I was awarded teacher of the year for two different years. Besides my classroom responsibilities, I coached cross country, track, basketball, and soccer. Show less

      Instructional Mathematics Coach

I worked as an instructional coach, overseeing seven college students who taught mathematics to middle school students. I would observe teachers and then go through a coaching cycle to improve designated skills. I was also responsible for leading trainings and department meetings.

      Honors Math Teacher/Department Head/AVID Coordinator

While at Rodriguez, I taught On-Level and PreAP Math, and I was the AVID Coordinator. As a math teacher, I ensured that all students exceeded their growth goals by differentiating my approach for each lesson/activity to target the student’s potential. I exceeded the district average on every common assessment, MAP test, and standardized testing. My student’s average MAP growth for the 2020-2021 year was 14 points, even though 20% of my students were remote learners. As a department head during the 2020-2021 year, I was responsible for ensuring my teachers were using best practices and utilizing appropriate tools so that all face-to-face students and remote learners were successful. I also created the 7th-grade PreAP curriculum.I was also charged with starting an AVID program at Rodriguez. I was responsible for training the staff on AVID strategies, and I helped prepare the students and staff to have a growth mindset as we worked towards becoming a college-readiness campus. Show less

      Math Teacher/Team Leader/Curriculum Coord./Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Team/Building Leadership

While at High Plains, I taught 6th grade and 8th grade math and Algebra I. Because it was a smaller campus, I had different grade levels in each class. Due to their varied abilities, I had to differentiate my lessons extensively. I created lessons that meet the student's needs, scaffolding lower standards while preparing them for the next year and whatever grade-level CMAS the students may take.During the 2021-2022 year, I taught Algebra I and ELD. As an ELD teacher, I gave instruction designed specifically for English language learners to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. Besides my teaching duties, I was a part of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusiveness Team, Instructional Leadership Team, and Master Scheduling Committee. I was a Curriculum Coordinator, a mentor to new teachers, and I coached several sports.During the 2021-2022 year, I taught Algebra I and ELD. National Mathematics Consultant

I currently work for Big Ideas Learning as a National Mathematics Consultant. To be successful in my position, I had to become familiar with the multitude of products that BIL offers, not only from the teacher's perspective but also from the students. I am responsible for meeting with district and school officials to determine what their needs are and then tailor a sales presentation based on their criteria. I am also responsible for creating implementation trainings based on the specific needs of the teachers to ensure they can utilize the product so that all students can achieve the growth desired.
