"Les Petits Riens" is a non-profit organization which helps former homeless people by housing and accompanying them in their socio-professionnal reinsertion project. In this framework, I worked in the employment unit, welcoming people, building their project together (looking for a job/a formation, getting ready for interviews and so on), following and reassessing it over time.

      Internship in great apes cognition

Research internship under the supervision of researcher Valérie Dufour from Evolutionary Ethology Department, IPHC (CNRS), Strasbourg, France.I was sent for three months to the International Medical Research Center of Franceville, Gabon. During those months, I daily trained tens of chimpanzees and a few gorillas to exchange items with a human experimenter, through positive reinforcement and on a voluntary participation basis. In addition, I also took part in the enrichment of the environment of the whole monkeys colony (including a.o. crab-eating macaques, rhesus macaques, vervets, mandrills, sun-tailed monkeys). Master Thesis on the social and economic behavior of chimpanzees (Pan Troglodytes Troglodytes)

During two months, I collected behavioral data on inequity aversion and discrimination among chimpanzees during food sharing, for my master thesis. This work was performed at the International Medical Research Center of Franceville (CIRMF), Gabon, under the supervision of researchers Olivier Klein and Laure Legrain from Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. Therefore, I had to set up an apparatus to test the validity of my innovating hypotheses and to determine adequate pre-tests to select a sample of individuals understanding the prerequisites of my experiment. Through this thesis, I proved my ability to work independently and safely in a research process and in a hands-on policy with apes. Show less

      Jan 2013 - Apr 2013
Traineeship in cognitive and social enrichment of captive monkeys

During three months, I assisted the manager of the enrichment programme devoted to temporarily isolated animals and spent much of my time managing both social and cognitive enrichment. Therefore, I performed daily contacts to develop a positive relationship with them and to be able to notice any change in the individuals' welfare and behaviors. I also spent time observing interindividual contacts prior to group constitution, and after the release of former isolated individuals within their group. I had the chance to daily work with several species : crab-eating macaques, rhesus macaques, vervet monkeys, brown lemurs and black lemurs. Show less

      Animal caretaker

Taking part in the European Voluntary Service programme, I spent one year in the Foundation Aap, a Rescue Center for Exotic Animals, as a caretaker. In order to learn from all departments and teams, my time there was divided into four periods. In the Primate Department, I learnt how to take care of the basic needs (cleaning enclosures, preparing food, managing enrichment/welfare and helping in extra activities, such as medical procedures) of several species of monkeys (crab-eating macaques, rhesus macaques, brown capuchins, indian crown macaques, pig-tailed macaques and barbary macaques). In a second time, I took care of several species of small mammals (a.o. degus, an otter, marmosets, tamarins, sugargliders, vervet monkeys, a coati, raccoon dogs, raccoons and porcupines). Later on, I worked in the Chimpanzee Department and in the Quarantine department, where I adapted to specific Biosafety Levels and the adequate hygienic procedures. In this foundation, I also had to cope with the hands-off policy that prevails there, far different from what I was used to before. Show less

      Educational Dropout Projects Manager

So far, I have been in charge of different projects, a.o. : - organization and animation of a collective tutoring project (7 to 12-year-old children)- organization, supervision and follow-up of individual tutoring (6 to 18-year-old students) (by pairs made of one young and one volunteer)- supervision and follow-up of the volunteers, their needs and the difficulties they face- setting-up of specific projects in schools, on their request- setting-up of a new tutoring place working with/for people from the neighbourhoodAll these projects not only required a thoughtful respect of professional secrecy, an excellent day-to-day collaboration within the team and with external organizations/associations (speech therapists, socio-psycho-medical centers, housing centers and so on), school directors and teachers as well as with the parents, but they also demanded a good overview of each young's situation and projects over time to be able to reassess and reajust them together when needed.
