Activities and Societies: Volunteer English Teacher at San Martino Scuola Elementare: • Developed and implemented lesson plans for ESL elementary students. • Managed classroom of 20-25 students from diverse backgrounds. • Integrated cross-cultural learning into lesson plans. While studying abroad for a semester in Italy, I lived with an Italian host family, took courses taught in Italian and volunteered teaching English to local elementary students. My experiences teaching while studying abroad provided me with invaluable interactions with diverse students who originally inspired me to obtain certification as an ESL teacher and to continue traveling.

Activities and Societies: Will Work for Food, Italian Club In addition to developing all four major language skills --listening, reading, writing, and speaking Italian-- I studied the history, linguistics, and literature of Italy. During my semester studying in Siena, I was fully immersed in the Italian language while living with an Italian family and volunteering in the community. This experience deepened my cultural understanding of Italy and synthesized my education in Italian Studies.
