  I carried out my internship in instrumental analysis laboratory of the institute. Phthalate amount inside of various types of shoes came from different companies was determined. As an intern, I was responsible for preparing samples for HPLC. Phthalate is a chemical used in textile industry and preffered for having low-costs but, it shouldn’t be above a limit or else it’s harmful for human health. After preparing samples, quantitative and qualitative analysis by HPLC, was carried out by chief of the laboratory. Show less

  Throughout my internship at TÜPRAŞ Refinery, I had a great opportunity to see all the equipments which I studied on and designed such as heat exchangers, distillation columns, furnaces, pipeline and pumping systems in industrial scale on field. Crude oil is a mixture contains various types of hydrocarbons. So that, it needs to be separated and purified into products for different applications. Inside the refinery there are too many plants for this purpose such as atmospheric and vacuum distillation, desulfurization, LPG-amine treatment plants etc. Before going to plants, basic information of the plants has been read from manuals. During my internship I believe that I enriched my engineering knowledge by observing production on field, reading operation manuals and putting my theoretical knowledge into practice. Show less

  Laboratory internship has been carried out in Şeker Enstitüsü located inside of Ankara Şeker Fabrikası. Process reclamation for sugar production by pilot-scale plant has been followed. Tasks in my laboratory internship can be given as follows; growth control of sugar beet, determination of polar sugar in sugar beets, determination and control of optimum process parameters such as pH, temperature, alkalinity, time etc., determination of polar sugar amount of known-loss comes from discharged slush and pulp, determination and continuous control of unknown-loss comes from microbiological activity and sugar fragmentation, control and measurement of polar sugar, dry product, purity, pH, alkalinity, lime salt, color etc. in each step of the process, quality and standards control of final sugar, determination the amount of side product of process, known as molasses. Although sugar factory starts to produce sugar during winter, I had an opportunity to see sugar beet from seed to plant, how to be harvested and the journey of the plant until it comes as sugar to our kitchen.
