      Worked as a classroom teacher, class teacher, drama trainer and guidance and counselling department team member. Working in an extra-county girls-only boarding school with a student population of 1,500 girls in the urban set-up of Kisii County, Kenya was highly satisfying and rewarding. I taught and assessed learners in the English and Literature learning areas. As a class teacher, I supported the school administration by managing a class of 70 learners. Together with the drama team, we successfully led the school drama group and qualified to stage a play at the National Drama Festival level in 2012. As a member of the guidance and counselling department I also provided support to learners facing challenges that affected their learning, health, school attendance and discipline. This is the role that inspired me to want to do more to support school communities by engaging at the system level. Show less

      Adolescent Mentor and Coach - Chagua Maisha Project

      Worked with the adolescent program team to develop school-based psychosocial support structures for effective adolescent HIV programming in Kisii County, Kenya. The overall aim of the project was to open up referral pathways, enhance community partnerships and strengthen linkages. This was key in promoting child protection to sustain gains made while opening up opportunities to enhance programming. We worked as a treatment team to identify school-going adolescents who were failing on HIV treatment and TB treatment. We then traced them to the school and community. Working with schools through the guidance and counselling departments to support the learners, we managed to improve HIV treatment outcomes and promote adherence to Antiretroviral therapy (ART) among the adolescents. Further, to enhance HIV treatment literacy for teachers supporting adolescents on care, I used the knowledge I had to develop and facilitate trainings for teachers working with adolescents on HIV treatment and care. The aim of the mentorship project was to equip the students with information on identified areas based on the challenges that they were facing. The goal of the mentorship was to equip the students with life skills, build positive peer relationships within the community, motivate participants to succeed in school while encouraging them to aspire for more and to strengthen their resolve to transition to the next level of education.       Identified as a young woman making significant contribution to adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) HIV programming in the country, I represented Kisii County in the lobby group comprising of 25 young women drawn from the 5 priority programming counties of Kisii, Siaya, Machakos, Kilifi and Turkana for the global fund grant cycle 2018-2020 high level Kenya country dialogues. Together as a team, we championed for the allocation of funds for AGYW programming for Kenya. Using our combined experiences, we developed a compelling case that led to the allocation of 10 million USD by Global Fund HIV program. This big win for the country was unprecedented and it led to the prioritization of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) as a key programming area for the country to date. Show less

      Worked in consultation with the Global Fund AGYW management team and in line with Global Fund AGYW programming priorities for the grant period of 2018-2020 and 2021-2023 grant cycles, within the Covid-19 programming priorities for AGYW designed a high-impact mentorship project called ‘My Dream Beyond Covid-19’.The project targeting AGYW aged between 10 and 24 was implemented using peer learning communities approach in the 6 counties of Kenya which include Siaya, Kisii, Kilifi, Turkana, Machakos and Kajiado. The main goal of the project was to address challenges that adolescent girls and young women faced due to Covid-19 school closure. To date, the program has reached approximately over 300,000 AGYW. Supported 26 Red Cross-Global Fund sub-recipient organizations to build capacity to effectively implement the AGYW programs and other youth related programs. This project was recognized by Global Fund and it also won me the Africa Youth Award for the most impactful education project in Africa (2021) by the Africa Youth Awards Committee based in Accra, Ghana. Show less Worked with the Global Fund KRCS team and the KENEPOTE management through facilitation by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to identify capacity training needs of the KENEPOTE teachers in the five (5) counties of implementation being Kilifi, Kisii, Turkana, Machakos and Siaya Counties. Developed a curriculum for teacher training to train 100 ToTs. Facilitated the 5- day training of the Tots. Supported roll-out of the KENEPOTE teachers trainingto the county level.To date, this has supported the growth of KENEPOTE network throughout the country, improved peer teacher support, championed for the rights of teachers and learners living with HIV and supported the growth of peer support clubs for learners living with HIV in schools. This has led to the growth and development of the network to over 3,000 teachers resulting in over 3,000 adolescent peer clubs in schools across the country. Show less

      Worked in consultation with the youth department management team and in line with the Kenya Red Cross Society Strategic Plan 2021-2025 identified capacity building needs of youth red cross volunteers, partnerships, school communities served and in light of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) within the existing program developed a revamped national student program. Further, I developed the curriculum and curriculum map to support seamless roll out of the program to all the 47 counties targeting all the schools and colleges within the republic of Kenya. Provided technical support and linkage between the program and ministry of education (MoE) to kick start the process of signing a charter of partnership. I undertook the roll-out capacity building pilot project for the 5 counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and Kajiado. The program started rolling out in May 2022 and is currently in 20 counties and over 4,000 schools with the target of 100% nation-wide coverage by December 2025. Show less

      Training Consultant and Manual Development - 'How to Activism Guidelines For Young People’

      Worked in consultation with the program leadership team to identify the capacity building needs of young female activists aged between 18 to 24 in the marginalized informal settlement of Dandora, Nairobi County-Kenya. This led to the development of a training manual called ‘How to Activism Guidelines for Young People’ addressing key learning gaps to effectively build the competencies of young change makers to thrive both their personal life and the activism space. Through a 3-day training workshop, conducted a training based on the manual with 80 participants. This marked the roll-out to implementation phase. The manual has since become instrumental in shaping how young people engage in activism and is being used by organizations working with young people in Kenya. Show less
