      The Works Council (ondernemingsraad) is a employee representation body mandated by dutch law. During my chairmanship the closure of the Cordis site in the Netherlands was announced and the council has gone through the process of investigating this decision and discussing it with the local site leadership and the company's global management team. When it turned out we were unable to persuade upper management to reconsider their decision, our role changed to partnering with the unions to negotiate measures to deal with the consequences for the staff. Lastly, during the year-and-a-half closure process we have been monitoring the site leadership's execution of the arrangements that were made and have been working with our general site manager and HR to resolve any issues during the process.The main goal in this process - next to achieving the goals of the transfer project - was to ensure transition of all staff into new employment, be it as independent professional, entrepreneur or working for another company.
