      - Perform engineering work in connection with the operation, instrumentation and maintenance of water purification equipment and facilities.- Receive reports from laboratory regarding analyses of water samples, record data and compare data with instrument panel gauge data to ensure water quality standards are maintained.- Calculate actual dosage rates of water purification chemicals and monitor residuals to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal standards.- Assist in repairing and replacing malfunctioning instruments and controls on purification equipment.- Assist in conducting specifications tests on new and refurbished equipment.- Assist in calibrating and maintaining recording, regulating and treatment devices on purification equipment.- Complete daily control logs detailing plant activity, treatment changes, equipment readings and problems.- Maintain records of inspections, permits, work orders, correspondence and related documentation. Show less -Perform QC tests on drinking water to ensure IEPA compliance: trace elements by ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and GFAAS; Mercury by cold vapor AA; inorganic anions by IC; Cyanide by FIAS; hardness; pH; orthophosphate and total phosphate; turbidity; color; TS, TDS, and TSS; conductivity; ammonia; and fluoride.- Perform standard tests on sediment, seepage and sludge deposits to determine chemical content. - Calculate, analyze and interpret test results. - Record data and maintain records on tests and analyses conducted in accordance with state and federal guidelines.- Maintain laboratory accreditation through proficiency testing in accordance with state and federal guidelines. - Maintain laboratory testing equipment, materials and instrumentation in conformance with acceptable laboratory standards. - Assist in conducting specialized water analyses in response to customer complaints. - Assist in updating, revising, and writing SOPs for chemical analyses.- Assist in training chemists on laboratory equipment.
