QoL meds, LLC
Sept 2011 - Aug 2012Clinical Medication Coordinator• Aided mental health patients with receiving their medication• Worked with insurance companies to get medications approved• Filled prescriptions and checked for possible reactions • Kept in contact with clients to retain them and receive referralsWhen I first started, I worked in a satellite location inside a mental health facility which specialized in substance abuse. I convinced patients to use QoL for filling all their medication. If the patient decided to use our services, I entered all of their information. Occasionally, I would travel to our fulfillment location to drop off any prescriptions which were for controlled substances. After working for around a month, a patient called and informed me a prescription was late. After receiving this call, I went to the fulfillment location and found the pharmacist and technician were not able to keep up with the additional workload from the prescriptions I sent to them. Since I wanted to ensure our patients received their medication on time, I became certified to fill prescriptions and began filling prescriptions during slow times at the mental health facility. From that time on, we were able to fill everyone's prescription on time. Show less

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office
Aug 2012 - Apr 2014Detention Officer• Managed large amounts of people• Resolved conflicts in a manner that minimized re-occurrence • Conducted investigations• Functioned in a high stress environmentSince I was hired about a week after the academy started, I was assigned to work in a non-contact position in the jails until another academy started. My first task was to verify the location of the property for each inmate in the jail. While completing this task, I fixed numerous broken shelves. Sgt. Dunn was impressed with how quickly I completed this task and was excited that I fixed the shelves which had been broken for a long time. Experiences like this is what led Sgt. Dunn to request I work on first shift with him after I completed the academy, even though the majority of new hires get assigned to third shift.Instead of just sitting around between security walks, I would work on tasks which weren't assigned to me. Said tasks ranged from restocking supplies, organizing the armory, cleaning, helping conduct searches in understaffed duty posts, and more. Since I prefer to also be actively working on something, I volunteered for as much training as possible. This desire led me to receive additional training and become a member of the Emergency Response Team, hereinafter known as ERT. ERT is a 6+ member group which primarily handles extractions of combative inmates. We have a lead with a shield, four officers to grab arms and legs, and at least one officer with a pepper-ball launcher and/or taser ready. With some of the combative inmates, I was able to speak calmly with them and get said inmates to comply without the use of force. Some of my fellow officers were surprised with what I could get inmates to do, but I believe my success came from treating the inmates with respect, not swearing, and always remaining calm. Premier Powder Coating & Custom Fabrication, LLC
Aug 2014 - Aug 2014Welder• Fabricated assemblies using gas metal arc welding• Prepared parts with sand blastingEven though this position was a contract position for fabricating a given number of bear-proof dumpsters, I worked as quickly as I could while still providing quality welds. When my coworkers would periodically stop for a break, I continued to work. After a few days, my supervisor told me I could take it easy, since we were ahead of schedule. I kept working quickly, and we finished way ahead of schedule. Since Ben, my supervisor, appreciated my work ethic, he had me work on other projects around the shop. After all the projects had been completed, Ben was trying to find random task for me to do so I could still be employed there, but I could tell there wasn't enough work to keep me there. I told Ben I could focus on my studies, and that he doesn't need to feel bad that there's not enough work to keep me on. Show less

City of Rexburg
Jan 2015 - Jul 2015Community Development Intern• Gained SQL and Crystal Report experience, while working with the city’s database • Used VBA to fix the coding for the GIS department• Created online forms using Adobe Acrobat Pro• Learned HTML and CSSThis was an internship which started with entering permit information and digitizing paper copies of permits. Shortly after starting my internship, the city's mapping system stopped populating the legends on the maps. One of the people who interviewed me remembered I knew how to code using visual basic. This led to me working on the code to find the issue. After about half an hour of stepping through the code, I found and corrected the issue. I also left a note in the code which detailed the changes I made. After this point, my position changed into more of an IT role. Since most of my coworkers knew little about coding, I was asked to complete projects which required multiple coding languages. The city gave me time at work to learn how to code using CSS, HTML, SQL, and Crystal Reports.I also helped with planning and zoning meetings by controlling the technology and troubleshooting any issues which arose. This included searching on the internet for whatever was being discussed so the public could see relevant information to aid with making informed decisions. Another task I was given was figuring out a way to increase the city's revenue. The main ideas were hosting a STEAM fair and creating a STEAM room in city hall, since most of the second floor of city hall was vacant. After presenting this plan, the economic development person said he also had the idea to start a STEAM room. While attending an ASME meeting, I spoke with the president for the local ASME chapter about the project. He told me ASME would provide around $100,000 for this project as long as we offer free classes for a year or two for youth. Show less

Diversified Metal Products, Inc
Nov 2015 - Jan 2018Project Engineer• Created: shop drawings, as-built drawings, weld maps, 3D CAD parts and assemblies, DXFs, and bend diagrams in SolidWorks for complex devices• Processed engineering change requests• Developed fabrication plans for complex devices• Projects included: nuclear glove-box lines, nuclear hatch covers, nuclear filtration systems, pressure vessels, cyclones, and moreI was primarily tasked with creating everything needed to get projects started. Most of the work I did was on nuclear projects which required almost everything to be thoroughly documented. This work included detailing and labeling every weld, bend, and cut made on each project. The fabrication plans were a step-by-step guide for fabricating each project. Hold points were put in the fabrication plans to ensure the fabricators didn't skip ahead to an easy task while waiting for quality to sign off on a quality check. Skipping ahead could result in completing a step which requires rework to be done in order to complete fabrication.During a time when business was slow, the quality manager asked me to review the procedures to look for ways said procedures could be improved. One of the procedures I modified was for the waterjet cutter. We were doing where the water reservoir would only be cleared after the garnet was piled close to the surface of the water. Even though this made it so the waterjet cutter seldomly needed a thorough cleaning, this practice made it so the waterjet cutter would be offline for one to two days. The change I recommended was taking a proactive approach to clear the garnet whenever there was down time. This change prevents this tool from being offline when it is needed. Show less

Brigham Young University - Idaho
Apr 2018 - Jul 2018Proto-Lab T.A.• Helped students learn how to create parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks• Used 3D printers, and helped students create printable models• Helped students in the prototyping labMost of my time in this position was spent in the front office with the 3D printers. We had five 3D printers which were almost constantly running. While prints were running, I would teach students how to create parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks. Due to my experience working as a projects engineer, I was able to teach the students what would most likely be expected of them when they enter the workforce. When not working in the front office, I would help students in the prototyping lab. Said lab included standard tools like drills, saws, files, vices, a laser cutter, and more hand tools. While in the lab, I would show students how to use the tools safely. Since I had experience welding, I also helped a few groups weld some of their projects. Show less

USPTO
Apr 2019 - Nov 2020Patent Examiner• Researched new technologies• Compiled data into persuasive reports• Worked with attorneys and applicants• Learned about intellectual propertyTypically, I was given about 18 working hours to: learn what the applicant believes is a novel invention, conduct research to find evidence teaching what is believed to be novel, compile relevant data into a persuasive report detailing why said invention is not novel, and provide said report to the applicant. The patent examiner group I was assigned to was for reviewing patent applications related to accounting, point-of-sales, and inventory management. Our group was also the dumping ground for patent applications which contained claims other examiners had a difficult time finding references to cover. I appreciated this aspect, because this allowed me to examine patent applications for unmanned vehicles, surgical devices, and more. When working on patent applications, I would occasionally conduct interviews applicants, patent attorneys, and patent agents. During said interviews, we would discuss any issues preventing the patent application from being patented. Show less

Mar 2021 - Jun 2021Mechanical Design EngineerSummary:* Software: SolidWorks and Microsoft Office* Created: Shop drawings, 3D models and assemblies, physical products* Projects: Mobile crane upgrades and hydraulic hose routing, safety guards for industrial equipment, pipe-handling equipment, and moreDetailed Description:The most time-consuming project was using SolidWorks to model hydraulic hose routing for mobile cranes. This included maintaining minimum bend radii, leaving enough slack to prevent pressurized lines from pulling out or breaking, and avoiding rub points. The second most time consuming project was updating all the drawings and some models for a mobile crane producer. We were contracted to make revisions and ensure each part and assembly had a corresponding drawing. Most of the rest of my time was spent working on random smaller projects which came up. The mobile crane upgrades ranged from adjustable railing to meet OSHA standards to an improved pull-out step. The safety guards were primarily constructed using aluminum frames and coated steel mesh we would cut and assemble. Show less

Mar 2021 - nowFacultyI teach:• Machine shop safety• Fundamentals of metallurgy• Milling operations• Lathe operations• Rebarreling• Boring• Trigger work• Firearm restoration• Making and replacing obsolete firearm componentsI teach this material to students in an online setting. Almost every week the students are tasked with submitting a written report covering aspects of the topics listed above. While grading these assignments, I leave feedback which allows the students to see where they went wrong. Occasionally, the student details a dangerous practice. When this happens, I reach out to the student to advise said student to not do the activity as detailed. Hopefully, my thorough work has prevented some students from being injured. With some students who have shown initiative, I have helped them get relevant work experience. This has primarily been done by helping create a letter of interest for the specific company where the student wants to work. Show less
