In this role I bring together the technical community within the CEMS Division to deliver an excellent, effective and efficient technical team. The technical team in CEMS covers a broad range of areas including: engineering, electronics, facilities & operations and IT. We aim to deliver consistent and coherent technical provision and processes for staff, students and visitors across the Division. I'm also a huge advocate for ensuring that technical staff within the Division are able to take advantage of the recognition and career development opportunities afforded to them; particular as part of the Technical Commitment. As IT & Technical Services Manager I:- Strategically manage the Division’s technical infrastructure, including all equipment and relevant network infrastructure, to meet the operational and technical demands of the Division’s distinct disciplines’ education, research and civic mission requirements.- Manage all equipment budgets ensuring value for money and delivery against the operational and strategic needs of the Division.- Use expertise and experience to identify best practice and strategic opportunities which can be shared the wider community of practice in order to inform institutional priorities. Show less My PhD thesis is “space, place and practice" are important factors in affording student engagement and learning. My work consisted of three different studies that utilised qualitative and quantative data to form a deep ethnographic investigation of practice. The results of my research include: two digital tools that can be used to capture human behavior and human use of space, a rich investigation of student practices in physical and virtual spaces, and a new perspective on how students work in the computing education community. My research demostrates that I have strong analytical and problem-solving skills; I have the ability to quickly understand new and complex issues, and then develop innovative solutions for data gathering / analysis.
