Nicolai at AirImpianti s.r.l aimed at designing a simple broadcasting system based on Open Sky EutelSat platform. Open Sky provides internet broadcasting service, where the uplink channel is used just to select contents while the full speed satellite downloading channel trasmits data, video and any kind of digital content to places difficult to connect with the high speed internet network.Just a dish antenna and the OpenSky receaver are needed. In this work several protocols have been analysed for supporting mainly videos broadcasting and finally a preliminary low-cost system have been drafted for gas stations and isolated residential areas. Additional goal was also to support the company engineers, which promoted this work, to assess the possibility of fostering this technology and open new business. Show less

The richness of CHRIS space optical instrument in terms of spectral bands and multi-view observations provides additional capabilities for vegetation discrimination and identification of urban areas, which in this work have been proved using Neural Network technology. However the space data required several pre-processing steps, mainly de-striping, atmopsheric correction and geolocation, issues that have been takled in this work by implementing ad-hoc methods and software. Results in terms of detection accuracy are closely comparable with more ranked operational systems based on Landsat satellites, encouraging user communities and industry to invest on hyperspectral technology. These holes, called polynias, play a crucial role for sea currents, heat exchange, sea salinity all over the globe. This work supported by CNR Prof. F.Parmiggiani and ESA helped researchers monitor this place using Envisat ASAR. The novelty of ASAR Globe and Wide Swath space observations has required a difficult but accurate elaboration of satellite data, along with the use of geophysical models and meteo data. Overall this research has confirmed the amplitude and the frequency of these polynia events, other than demonstrating the capability of microwave observation for sea ice study and tracking.
