  As a coordinator for the mission team I oversee program development, fundraising, and team formation.Catholics on a Mission is a student-driven service organization evangelizing our parishes, our cities and our world through corporal and spiritual works of mercy. In Redemptoris Missio, Blessed Pope John Paul II writes, “…the moment has come to commit all of the Church’s energies to a new evangelization and to the mission ad gentes. No believer in Christ, no institution of the Church can avoid this supreme duty: to proclaim Christ to all peoples.” Catholics on a Mission embraces this call of the Church and empowers high school and college students to explore the missionary and religious life through hands on experience.   St. Joseph Missions is a multi-phase project consisting of separate women’s and men’s shelters and women’s and men’s group homes.Our first will provide emergency shelter for 16-20 single women within 24 hours for stays of 1-45 days. The center will follow a triage approach, providing immediate shelter while we identify organizations best able to serve the needs of each person (pregnant, mental health issues, domestic violence, substance abuse, etc.). This center will provide lockers, showers, laundry facilities, and mailboxes for up to an additional forty (40) “walk-ins,” non-resident co-op members.At the same time we’re establishing several group homes for 4-8 women and men unable to find long term assistance right away. These individuals live in community houses for up to 365 days. People living within each community have a voice in how the community operates.Each home will be strategically located around Fort Wayne. Each will respect available resources and fulfill our responsibility to be a good neighbor to those nearby. Business owners, volunteers, and religious serve as board members providing oversight. Men’s and women’s directors oversee their respective community houses and group homes, serving as liaisons between the community and executive boards. Show less
