      Jan 2006 - Dec 2006
      Radiographer (community service)

After graduating in 2006 I worked at Manne Dipico Hospital in South Africa and gained a vast amount of trauma and general radiography experience as it was based at a high risk road accident site. The position entailed working with only one other radiographer which meant I had to take on some of the managerial responsibilities. These responsibilities included performing the usual administration tasks and helping General Practitioners with the evaluation with regards to what is normal and abnormal anatomy. This greatly increased my confidence in film evaluation and also my practice as a whole. I learned the basics of darkroom maintenance, quality assurance procedures and monthly and weekly statistics, these I believe are skills that are and will be applicable throughout my radiography career. • Dr's Schnetler Corbett & Partners

      Jan 2007 - Jun 2008
      Radiographer

In 2007 I started working with the private practice Drs. Schnetler, Corbett and Partners who sponsored my final year of radiography. I was able to gain experience in general and trauma radiography, theatre, mobiles and general fluoroscopy. It was required of me to work on call and standby. When I was on call on weekends my responsibilities included the running and managing of the whole department over the weekend as there was only myself in the department coordinating and prioritizing work and workload was vital to maintain smooth running of the department. This is where I gained and improved most of my communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. I learnt to work well in a team as well as on my own and additionally learnt to solve problems effectively and efficiently as and when they arose. Supervising and assisting students in radiographic positioning, explaining ionising radiation regulations to them and evaluating their films before they took it to radiologist for reporting were also part of my duties. All the above skills have become second nature to me as they became part of my day to day working pattern and I believe they will be beneficial in any role. Show less

      Jun 2008 - Jun 2009
      Locum Radiographer

Working as an agency staff member I know that my job is to help prioritise, use initiative and be able to manage workload effectively, therefore making work flow within the department much easier for the permanent staff members. The need to be able to lend a hand or pick up where a colleague has left I believe is essential and therefore do my best whenever I have the opportunity to help.

      Jun 2009 - Jan 2010
      Locum Radiographer

In July 2009 I started working with the private practice Drs. Schnetler, Corbett and Partners (SCP) as a locum radiographer. Here I learned a great deal about DR radiography including gaining some more experience with Charisma and PACS. Having worked with a CR system in the UK actually helped me master the departments DR system within a few days, which really helped with the departments patient flow as no time was spent in really training me.

    • Dr's Bergmann Ross & Partners

      Feb 2010 - now
      Radiographer

In February 2010 I started working for private practice Dr’s Bergman, Ross & Partners as senior radiographer. As a result of my training and experience with charisma at SCP I was an advantage to the practice as they did not really need to train me to use the RIS and PACS system. These responsibilities included performing the usual administration tasks, running and managing of the whole department over the weekends including night duties, as I was the only staff member in the department during this time coordinating and prioritizing workload was vital to maintain smooth running of the department. I adapted to my surroundings and became a part of the team in a matter of days if not hours. Supervising and assisting students in radiographic positioning, explaining ionising radiation regulations to them and evaluating their films before they took it to radiologist for reporting were also part of my duties. Night duties I had to manage and coordinate patients as well as do administration work, which was very challenging and made me more confident and competent to deal with any situation I was faced with. As a senior radiographer working night duties I was afforded the opportunity to be trained in CT examinations. While working for BRP I further improved my skills by ascertaining a certificate in Image Appreciation – Appendicle Skeleton reporting course which improved my ability to evaluate x-ray images and assist trauma doctors with their diagnosis, furthermore obtaining a certificate in IV Cannulations and obtaining my Bachelors degree in Diagnostic Radiography.
