English & Social Justice Leadership Teacher

At Mountain View I taught 9th grade English, 11th grade American Literature, and a co-curricular leadership class. Following the district co-teaching model, I worked with a SPED teacher to modify and adapt lessons for a large population of students with IEPs and 504 plans.. I also created and taught a leadership and college prep class. I worked as a Small Learning Community leader and served as the site Marana Education Association representative. The co-curricular leadership program, called Leader for Life, that I designed and implemented from the ground up, served as a pathway to post-secondary success for students enrolled. Throughout the course of the year, students reflected on themselves as leaders, engaged in service projects, studied topics in social justice, and prepare for college. The college preparation portion of the course delved deep into applications, the college essay, and included an in-depth exploration of financial aid and paying for college. Show less
