  Project: investigating the neural mechanisms underlying high-fat diet induced inhibitory GABA neurotransmission plasticity in cardiac vagal motor neurons. Key Competencies and Skills:• Developed skills in patch clamp electrophysiology, in vivo rodent heart rate/blood pressure radiotelemetry, optogenetics, cardiac injection, and stereotaxic surgeries.• Manage three different research projects and implement Jira to organize and track progress.• Forecast and manage grant budget• Designed and conducted in vitro and in vivo experiments using mice model• Developed new methods and protocols in the lab for surgeries• Trained lab members in survival surgery, optogenetics, single cell western blot, and image analysis pipeline development.• Mentored an undergraduate research student in investigating cardiac vagal motor neurons subpopulation in the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus.• Coached my undergraduate student on public speaking, scientific presentation, and poster making.Beyond Research:• Actively writing for the general public through the ISpyPhysiology Blog of the American Physiological Society• Volunteering with the MU STEM Cubs, teaching hands-on STEM activities to elementary and middle school studentsAccomplishments:• Revealed that GABAA receptors containing δ subunit mediate the increase of tonic GABAAR current in cardiac vagal motor neurons in the DMV after 15 days of HFD. • Published 2 research articles and presented at local, national and international conferences.• Won MU Postdoctoral Fall Research Grant 2024• Published 3 blog posts for the ISpyPhysiology Blog• My undergraduate student was elected for an oral presentation at MU Cardiovascular Day and received the Barbara A.
