      Research And Development Engineer

As a Research and Development Co-op at Formica Corporation, I was responsible for supporting R&D operations by completing assigned research tasks and operating pilot scale production equipment. My day-to-day responsibilities included designing and carrying out experiments, drawing up plans, finding, gathering and analyzing technical information, and keeping accurate records of experiments and results in laboratory notebooks.During my time at Formica Corporation, I also identified sources of equipment and materials to support R&D operations and gave oral progress updates to team members. Additionally, I operated a 3D printer and created printer command sequences to produce printed patterns according to engineering specifications. I assisted in batch formulation for various materials used in laminate manufacturing and helped engineers with various tasks as needed. Some notable accomplishments from my time at Formica Corporation include designing a prototype program for a production line 3D printer, writing three SOPs for R&D lab equipment to make the machines safer and easier to use, and using AutoCAD software to draw patterns for a laser engraver. One project involved using moisture content data to create a model comparing air humidity to the expansion of different types of paper, which was used to dynamically set the humidity of an environmentally controlled chamber which stored treated paper. This was done to address the problem of warping in the final product, and completely fixed the issue, allowing for large scale production of wireless chargers embedded in laminate surfaces.Through my experience at Formica Corporation, I developed skills in experimental design, data analysis, and equipment operation. I also gained valuable experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Show less

      Research Lab Assistant

As a Research Lab Assistant, I conducted research and contributed to the advancement of the field of carbon nanomaterials through my work with graphene, 3D graphene, and polyaniline coated graphene. I designed and carried out experiments with these materials, generated and analyzed CV curves, and provided insights that were critical to the success of the research.I played a key role in the synthesis of carbon nanomaterials, operating advanced equipment with precision and expertise. In addition, I collected and analyzed spectroscopic measurements to characterize plasma and gain a deeper understanding of the nature of vertical graphene growth. This work required a high level of technical proficiency and attention to detail. As part of my role, I provided weekly presentations on research progress to the UC Nanoworld team, accompanied by written reports. This allowed me to showcase my communication skills and ability to distill complex scientific concepts into clear and concise language.I am proud to have co-authored a research paper in the Journal of Carbon Research, which speaks to my expertise in the field of nanomaterials and my ability to contribute to the scientific community. The paper can be found in the Journal of Carbon Research here: https://www.mdpi.com/2311-5629/6/2/40.Overall, my work as a Nanomaterials Research Lab Assistant involved a diverse range of responsibilities and required a unique set of skills. Through my contributions, I helped to advance the field of carbon nanomaterials and made a valuable contribution to the UC Nanoworld team. Show less
