      Tool & Die Maker

Canam Tool & Die specialized in prototypes and tool repair for airplane manufacturers and the energy sector. Having completed my Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship with the company, I learned to read engineering drawings and operate equipment to create the final product. One major project I worked on included the development of load carrying hooks on helicopters. In terms of skills and equipment, I became proficient in:• Setting up and operating manual and CNC machines (lathes, milling centers, boring, and surface grinders) and other machine shop equipment.• Verifying conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments and documenting the results.• Performing own quality inspections and using a wide variety of equipment including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators as well as performing surface plate inspections.• Producing functional prototypes• Welding (Stick, MIG, and TIG) with both stainless steel and aluminum materials Show less

    • Tapp Label Company

      Jan 2000 - Jan 2018
      Director of Maintenance

Tapp Label Company (formerly Tapp Label Technologies, formerly Tapp Technologies) delivers best-in-class label printing services for the wine, spirits, beer, and beverage industries. Over the 16+ years of my employment, Tapp grew from its single plant in Langley to 6 facilities across North America. Over this same period, I developed from a Mechanic to the Director of Maintenance. My key responsibilities and achievements included:• Leading a maintenance team of up to 4 members across 6 locations, all responsible for the testing and corrective and preventative maintenance of over 30 printing presses and offline equipment, ensuring minimum downtime. • Annually auditing equipment, creating and recommending improvement plans based on equipment lifecycles and recorded failures and downtime; maintaining comprehensive and accurate records of all equipment, parts, and maintenance activities. • Managing and implementing capital projects; inspecting, purchasing, and installing new and used printing presses and offline presses; decommissioning old equipment and maintaining a library of spare parts. • Modifying equipment, fabricating custom parts and developing equipment for the effective and efficient operation of printing equipment. This included an add-on to the flexographic press that allowed the press to remove the adhesive, print on both sides of the substrate and re-apply the adhesive. • Reviewing and analyzing reports (equipment utilization, downtime, waste) to assist in the determination of root cause based on material or equipment operations.• Managing key vendor and contractor relationships; overseeing request for quotes (RFQs) and determining best vendor or contractor to purchase from or receive services from; keeping stakeholders informed of decisions, project status, and budget.
