Designed, built and tested a 100 N load cell with less than 0.2% linearity including custom amplifier circuitry and FEA strain optimization.Utilized Ansys FEA to increase the weight-normalized torsional stiffness of a bicycle handlebar stem by 15% and increase the safety factor by 23%. I spent 3 years with the Electric Vehicle Engineering Club. When the club embarked on their Rapid Battery Exchange project, I led the Mechanical design team in creating a battery swapping device for an all electric van.For my senior project, I joined a team of 6 engineers, on an ambitious project to design, build and test an autonomous, underwater pier camera system in under 8 months with sponsorship from industry companies and the Cal Poly Marine Pier. Also during my senior year, attempting to solve handling issues with my bicycle, I designed, built and tested my own bike frame using PCM models, FEA analysis and TIG welding at a total cost of $35. For 2 years I helped design and build the Cal Poly Formula SAE race car as part of the aerodynamics team and then the suspension team. Show less

      Jun 2010 - Dec 2010
      CAD Developer and Fabrication Assistant

I started at Large's sorting metal and sweeping floors during summer break, but I was able to demonstrate my skills with Solidworks CAD and show the benefit to having some of Large's projects in digital form. My CAD drawings with bill of materials were their first form of technical documentation and allowed ease of replicability and accounting.

      Jun 2011 - Sept 2011
      Nuclear Product Operations Engineering Intern

Under the tutelage of P.E. certified Mechanical Engineers, I was able to not only learn but also assist with the design of pumps and seals to be used in nuclear power generation. This was completed through the use of AutoCAD for drawings and Ansys FEA for mechanical analysis along with ASME and CFR codes for design reference.

Operations Shift Supervisor and Power Plant Technician

At Moss Landing I started as an Apprentice Power Plant Technician, but within one year I was leading the development of new strategies to ensure the highest level of safety, compliance and efficiency. With regulatory compliance being one of the most important aspects of any industrial facility, I continually developed new documentation to make it easier for all operators to ensure compliance with NERC, EPA, CAISO and MBARD regulations. The main controllable influence on profit margin at a power generation facility is it's mechanical efficiency. Through the use of PI, DCS and PMAX software tools I was able to increase efficiency without compromising reliability through analysis of historical trends and live data.Starting April 2015, I was promoted to the Upgrade Shift Supervisor position along with the Clearance Coordinator position.I was selected to the position as Shift Supervisor, managing a crew of 6-10 highly skilled Operations Plant Technicians, on an as needed basis. As a manager I improved the processes in place by creating regulatory guide books, compliance calculators and payroll spreadsheets while at the same time balancing my work between Shift Supervisor, Clearance Coordinator, Operations Technician and Union Shop Steward positions. Mechanical Design Engineer

Oversaw multiple new products from concept to pre-production by leveraging design, CAD, and GD&T skills while working closely with the manufacturing team in Taiwan. Measured performance of product designs using FEA software, designing custom fixtures, and analyzing ride test data to benchmark against ISO regulations and competitor products. Characterized chainring retention issues by utilizing FEA software tools to generate multiple spider designs with varying stiffness to weight ratios to test failure modes and deflection. Designed a new 29% lighter direct-mount chainring shape found in 4 Praxis products. Show less
