      Local Food Initiative Coordinator

      Cultivated communities in upper East Tennessee by supporting relationships between local farmers, producers, and the public. I oversee local food projects that support the growth of food-based business and elevates the local food systems in the central East Tennessee regions. My work strengthens the food system throughout our region by assisting farmers, growing the local food economy, and preserving its rich agricultural heritage. Key ResponsibilitiesDeveloped Friends of Nourish Knoxville donor program and worked with Executive Director to develop and execute fundraising campaigns for new donors, recurring givers, and major donors.Developed and executed strategies to create and secure funding for programs that build revenue for farmers and create a more equitable shopping experience for all members of our community, including Double Up Food Bucks, Nourish Kids, Nourish Moves, and Nourish Wellness. Collaborated with Executive Director and Nourish Staff to scale programs up to regional levels to support staffing and programs at small farmers' market in upper East TN.Assisted on the publication of the annual printed East TN Local Food Guide through content management, copywriting, ad sales, and distribution through a 33 county region.Developed and grew relationships among farmers, producers, local government, and community members to better integrate local food into our community.During the COVID-19 Pandemic, launched a perishables purchasing program in partnership with local farmers to provide more than $150,000 in locally-sourced produce to at-risk community members including Bridge Refugees, Centro Hispano, Interfaith, Spring Hill Elementary, and seniors and individuals with low incomes at Love and Isabella Towers.Worked with Executive Director to create HR materials including an Employee Handbook, a Fundraising Plan, and other best practices for nonprofit management.       The Director of Food Security will serve as the primary project manager to lead and facilitate the work of the Food Access Committee and other relevant food system councils, networks, coalitions, and/or committees through the advancement of a strategic food plan to realize a county-wide vision to build a more just and equitable food system. Key ResponsibilitiesDrive interagency input, alignment, accountability, and delivery of the plan, while serving as a liaison to the government leadership, partners, and the broad community of stakeholders committed to improving food systems.Regularly seek out innovative and best practices in applicable planning and related fields and incorporate them into Knox County’s food systems agenda by collaborating with local and national experts, researchers, and community leaders.Produce memos, reports, presentations, and other written materials as needed to engage and inform stakeholders and summarize progress in implementing programs and initiatives for internal stakeholders as well as community and other external audiences.Establish annual goals, outcome metrics, plans, processes, timelines, and assessment and reporting mechanisms for tracking countywide progress of food equity and justice.Serve as the primary liaison for local and regional meetings, local or state level coalitions, city and county meetings, and other opportunities for collaboration and relationship building regarding food systems.Identify new food system funding and work with the broad community of stakeholders to secure and leverage funding opportunities with new and existing funders.Provide mentorship and support for up-and-coming food system leaders and organizations to build a more just and equitable food system.Work with organizational partners and community stakeholders to improve alignment of existing services for individuals and families.
