      MSD St. Thomas is in port city of Charlotte Amalie on the United States Virgin Island (USVI) of St. Thomas in the Leeward Island chain, between Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands. The MSD’s area of responsibility incudes three of the four islands in the USVI; St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. Working closely with other government agencies, federal, territorial, and local law enforcement, MSD St. Thomas protects and defends one of the most popular cruise ship and yachting destinations in the world. St. Thomas is receives more than 500 cruise ships and 2 million visitors annually. The unit conducts inspections on more than 70 cruise ships and yachts, 130 inspected small passenger vessels, 30 high capacity ferry boats, 225 un-inspected commercial vessels, three container terminals, and the only dry dock in the USVI. MSD St. Thomas is responsible is the protection of the marine environment and the promotion of the safe passage of marine traffic; carrying passengers, oil, hazardous products, and consumer goods in America’s Paradise. The active duty and civilian crew at MSD St. Thomas perform all Marine Safety, Environmental Protection, and Homeland Security missions including small passenger vessel inspections on US and BVI flagged vessels; cruise ship and port state control examinations on foreign and Caribbean cargo vessels; and respond to, and investigate pollution, and marine casualties.
