      Secretary’s Honor Cyber Student Intern

During this summer, I had the opportunity to be part of the Secretary’s Honor Program Cyber Student Intern Program (CSIP) in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this internship, I was exposed to real day-to-day cybersecurity scenarios and delivered relevant solutions for different situations. I used python to create scripts that automated application and host monitoring to provide operational and security monitoring of different COTS products to ensure all applications in a suite of Identity and Access Management (IAM) enterprise services were up and running. Scripts were also used to pull data metrics to analyze if data caches were correctly updated from source systems. This procedure was previously done manually by a team of engineers, taking around 2 hours to complete. Thanks to my delivered scripts, the process was reduced to a ten-minute automated job. A 91% time saving script. Show less

      Information System Security Engineer

I had the opportunity to work as the ISSE of over 15 systems going through the Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process. All of these systems were performed using the Risk Management Framework to identify, eliminate and/or minimize risk. While I was the ISSE of these systems, we obtained Authorization to Operate (ATO) for more than 87% of them in less than a year, being one of the most successful years of obtaining systems authorizations. During the last months of my career in this position, I was in charge of being the ISSE and system administrator of the system that grants the most funds in the department, being this a huge achievement in my career.
