      The (ASPHN) runs a nationwide heart disease prevention program for the racial minority population by promoting health equity and diverse health workforce development. Redesigned heart disease prevention messages more culturally relevant for the African American population through the narrative health messaging technique. 1. Developed a narrative health message with a video of personal experiences obtained from the African American community members with heart disease on how they managed their heart disease, improved health through diet-based lifestyle, and prophylactic treatment. The video had a strong persuasive effect on the audiences, resulting in increased literacy on heart-healthy behavior.2. Led community needs assessments and drafted a literature review on the social determinants of health affecting the African American population's heart health, promoting health equity, and the program's cultural responsiveness. 3. Trained more than 500 nurses across 33 states, including Washington DC, on narrative health messaging through web-conferences. 4. Cultivated the narrative health messaging method as a primary health communication among the nurses, enhancing the program's credibility, increasing the target population's engagement and responsiveness, and expanding the program and services to more locations.5. Cleaned and consolidated large data sets using smart sheets, Microsoft Office suites, SPSS, and SAS, to provide accurate data analysis and program evaluation. Show less

Provided direct support and leadership in areas of national policy and program implementation; data review and analysis; public health education; and workforce development. 1.Co-facilitated the inter-agency collaboration between the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) and OBHE to establish The Opioid Crisis and Racial/Ethnic Minority Populations, a learning community of approximately 200 professionals created to sustain the impact of an OMH webinar series.2.Developed a compendium of COVID-19 resources focused on the impact of COVID-19 on behavioral health care for racial and ethnic minority populations as a technical assistance resource for health care providers, program managers, and patient advocates. 3. Reviewed and edited two federal issue briefs published by SAMHSA on "The Opioid Crisis and the Black/African American Population: An Urgent Issue" and "The Opioid Crisis and the Hispanic/Latino Population: An Urgent Issue.”4. Completed a comprehensive review and synthesis of the literature, federal data sets, and qualitative reports to develop a blog for OBHE, "Synthetic Opioids: Re-defining the Crisis for African Americans." 5. Developed content and identified data resources to inform the planning of the virtual roundtable on Black youth suicide, "Synthetic Opioids: Re-defining the Crisis for African Americans," convened jointly by OBHE/SAMHSA and the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) for 1000 participants. PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Project Officer for Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19 (AHL), a $250 million demonstration grant for 73 awardees under the authority of 42 USC § 300u-6 (Section 1707 of the Public Health Service Act) and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021.CROSS-TEAM COLLABORATION: Facilitate external collaboration between the OMH, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and AHA to mobilize HRSA funding of $14.5 million to provide TA to 350 health centers. The cooperative agreement aims to increase provider and clinician engagement in implementing evidence-based practices (e.g., advanced self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) technology). DATA ANALYSIS & REPORTING: Monitor and evaluate OMH funded programs by tracking applications (4DX and DPO tracker), success stories, activities, and challenges to inform future funding and policy decisions. Prepared reports in response to 2 congressional inquiries on:o AHL awardees serving the LatinX population.o Percentage of HRSA sponsored Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)s serving LatinX population. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Monitor the project's efficacy in reducing health risks with increased health care utilization plans. AHL and NHCI projects aim to promote awareness of significant health risks like COVID-19 and Hypertension among racial and ethnic minority populations.
