I was also in involved in the planning and design of these NMT facilities which will improve the level of pedestrian safety, accessibility and mobility for NMT users of the Rea Vaya BRT in Johannesburg and Soweto.   I worked as a Civils Site Engineer on the project whereby I was coordinating the technical aspects of the works, ensuring conformance to procedures, standards and specifications. I also ensured that my teams conformed to health, safety and environment standards and policies. I was reporting directly to the Site Agent and the Project Manager on daily basis and carrying out their instructions. This was one of the challenging positions I have ever hold in my career as it carried a lot of responsibility since I had over five Construction Foreman’s which reported directly to me and I was supporting them technically. There were over 100 site personnel which were under my leadership through my Construction Foreman’s. I was there to ensure that my teams deliver the job within tight time frames and produce quality work for the client (Eskom), I organized and coordinated the resources (including ordering of material in advance) that will fast-track production, and I monitored the daily works costing and ensured that works were accounted for. I was responsible for controlling the costs versus revenue, preparing the forecast and scheduling the works accordingly. Show less

  I worked as a Construction Manager whereby I was responsible for the full time construction supervision, ensuring that the contractor’s work conforms to the quality assurance/quality control by executing scheduled inspections as defined in the approved Quality Control Plan (QCP) and the project specifications. It was my duty to ensure that the contractor was issued with the correct construction drawings which were the latest revisions. I was responsible for giving technical support to the contractor and escalating Field Engineering Queries to the Project Manager (PM) and professional team (Designers). I was responsible in ensuring compliance to occupational health, safety and environmental standards as defined in the approved SHE plan, Baseline Risk Register, Job specific Risk Assessment and job specific Method Statements. I was responsible for tracking the contractor’s progress as defined in the approved schedule and the 2 Weeks Look-Ahead, hence ensuring the contractor doesn’t fall behind the schedule and the planned completion date is not affected. To ensure the contractor’s procurement of services (appointment of sub-contractors) and materials is as per the approved Procurement Plan and to correlate to the Project Schedule to ensure that the planned completion date is not affected. I was responsible for convening progress & technical meetings also responsible for compiling the progress reports and submitting to the PM for reviewing and approval. I was responsible for confirming the site measurements and verifying of payment certificates as well as communicating the cost reports to track the contractor’s cash flow that it falls within the allocated budget. I have successfully compiled the Baseline Risk Register and the Communication Plan for project on behalf of the Client. I have reviewed and approved the Quality Control Plan, I have scrutinized the contractor’s schedule through my Construction Planner and advice for approval by the PM. Show less
