      Camp Counselor

During the 8 weeks of camp, I worked along educators at the Coastal Center where we educated 150 campers about the environment and the Center. With ages ranging from 5-16, there was something for each camper to be excited about and to learn during their week at camp. Each week we took them on a walk through our nature walk where we learned about the spiders that call the mangroves home, why mangroves are important, and about the Indian River Lagoon. We seined in the Lagoon, learning about what it means to be an estuary and a nursery for juvenile fish. We learned about the 4 non-releasable sea turtles that we have on property and the 3 species that nest on our beaches during the summer months. Campers also learned about the fish in our gamefish lagoon and were able to participate in our invertebrate touch tank. The older campers (8-16) also had the opportunity to oyster bag and they learned why oysters are a keystone species and what it means to be a keystone species. Our last week of camp is “Snorkeling Camp” and we teach our 13-16yos about fish ID and how to do citizen science while they are snorkeling. Show less

    • The Honors College at Florida International University (FIU)

      Aug 2022 - Dec 2022
Teaching Assistant for Miami in Miami

Miami in Miami is a class offered through the Honors College at FIU that examines the historical, social, and cultural identity of Miami. Through field research, students will explore the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of the city and its surroundings. As a TA for this course, I attended all of the classes including slogging through the Florida Everglades, kayaking out to Chicken Key in Biscayne Bay, climbing the Cape Florida Light House in Bill Baggs State Park, retracing history through downtown Miami and Overtown, and much more. I also assisted students in maintaining their weekly blogs, assisted in research for class lectures, tracked attendance, and coordinated with students for class excursions to keep the class on schedule. • Millennium Campus Network (MCN)

      Aug 2022 - Dec 2022
      Millennium Fellow

The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long project on campus. In partnership with the Office of Global Learning at FIU, the project I was a part of is called "Panthers Reducing Waste" which is a large group project in our cohort working on reducing food waste, textile waste, plastic waste, and energy waste on FIU's main campus. I worked as part of the plastic waste group, working to reduce single-use plastics on campus and making a change in our community. Before I graduated, we expanded my part of the project to also start collecting donations for up-cycling projects and also collecting used electronics for electronic recycling. Show less
